Humans, both students and teachers, don't learn by doing -- rather, we learn by thinking about what we have done. Too often in education, we treat learning like factory work and ask students to just do, rather than reflect. Reflection is key to learning and growth.
In my personal life, I find writing to reflect meaningful, and I also reflect on my professional practice to grow and share. Likewise, I craft times in my students' lessons to reflect on their own learning, whether it be in writing or orally.
